Sunday 16th March 2008 - Trial

ID 1343 Event : Lansdown Trial

Venue : Lansdown, Bath, 10.30

Trial cancelled!

I'm sorry to say that we had to take the difficult decision to cancel this trial. Not because the sections had become unridable but the parking area was virtually under water by 9 o'clock. As we all know trials ground is nigh impossible to come by and this is one of the best we have. We did not want to jeopardise future events at this location by cutting up the field and by getting vehicles stuck in th mud. We had enough of this just with the early birds and poor Mr Chips mobile catering truck! Look forward to seeing you all at Lambs Lair next month. Dave.

Sunday 20th April 2008 - Trial

ID 1344 Event : Lambs Lair Trial

Venue : Lambs Lair, 10.30

Hi everybody. After a long wet and very cold day marking out the trial we finished with what we hope will make for a good days sport. Ten sections marked out by Bob Jeffries and Rod Webb. They found some really interesting new ones and varried a couple of old ones.

We arrived at the venue quite early and set up in the car park and unloaded the bikes. Bob and Rod checked around the course to make sure everything was as we left it the day before. At 10.30 we started as usual and I split the entry into two groups to try and cut down the waiting for the observers and riders alike. The going on the first couple of laps was a bit slippy after the rain on Saturday but being on top of the Mendips and the easterly wind soon dried things out, making some sections a little easier but others changed quite a bit with the limestone rocks being uncovered causing trouble and more footing. We didn't see as many none trials riding club members as usual but with an enduro on down the road we were visited by a few of their followers and good to see too.
Now I normally put the results on the end of this report but if you now go to the top of the home page and click on the results you will see the scores for all the entry. And if you want a set, print one off. Thats all for now folks, Dave. PS we seemed to have lost the list of telephone numbers of people who observe so if you are one could you give me a ring I would be very greatful.

Sunday 27th April 2008 - Scramble

ID 1359 Event : BCMCC Scramble

Venue : Yatton Keynall, 10:00

At our meeting on the 27th of April at Yatton Keynell, stalwart club member Malcom Sims sadly passed away. Malcom will be greatly missed not only as a club member but also to me personally. He always attended working parties, even on occasions when he was not able to ride. With his camper van and surrounded by family, he will be sadly missed in the paddock.
On a personal note I will miss our duals in the workers and age related races where we often met, I could never match his electric starts but would use the lighter weight of my bikes to try and catch him up. In our last race together I managed to overtake Malcom only for my chain to fall off, as he passed me he shouted out his normal friendly greeting, something to do with the parentage of my twostroke!
I hope it will be of some comfort to his family to know he passed away doing something he really enjoyed, surrounded by family and friends. Our thoughts and sympathies go to his family at this sad time.

Sunday 27th April 2008 - Road Run

ID 1363 Event : Nostalgia on two Wheels

Venue : TBA, 10:00

Classic Bikes Only

Only a disappointing 32 bikes turned up but we had a good day out, the route was very scenic taking us across the somerset levels, stopping at Burtle for lunch, then returning back up across the Mendips. Keith Robbins kindly gave up some of his time in the morning to judge the bikes awarding Best British to Barry Blake’s Tribsa and Best Non British to Glen Bruford’s Gilera.

Sunday 25th May 2008 - Trial

ID 1345 Event : Emborough Pond Trial

Venue : Emborough Pond, 10.30

Hi everyone, The team went to the venue Tuesday to have a walk around and sort out the sections for Sunday. Steve the landowner and a few friends have been busy with a chain saw and strimmer over the past couple of weeks clearing a lot of scrub and fallen trees from a bank that we have not used before so we will have quite a few new sections. I cannot say any more until we have marked out on Saturday as the forcast says we might have some rain. More info about six Saturday.

Latest update. We sorted out the sections today and with the forcast for rain later in the morning we have marked out with that in mind. If it has been raining overnight they will be eased before the start. See you all at signing on. Dave.

With the forcast rain falling all night when we arrived and had a look around the venue we decided to ease a few sections. As this is an old landfil quarry and once you scrub off the grass, weeds and leafmould everything changes to clay , shail and stone. We had a full house of observers at the start and I must thank them all very much indeed. As the day went on the sections cut up and became a real strength sapper. Most sections took marks but eight and nine were real stoppers and took threes and fives off most riders the surface was very unforgiving. We had been asked to come along the newly cleared bank from section five then across the gully between the lakes to six. This proved to be more difficult than it looked, sorry about that. Thanks to everyone who helped on the day and also a big thankyou to Steve for allowing us on his land. Dave

Sunday 1st June 2008 - Road Run

ID 1364 Event : Lifeboat Run

Venue : TBA, 10:00

This year we went to Lyme Regis and it was dry this time! 68 bikes were made welcome by the staff at the lifeboat station, allowing us to park right opposite on the boat park. Altogether we raised £567 on the day which we made up to £600 out of club funds. We also made the papers! “Lyme News” put a nice report and photo of us in their weekly.

Saturday 14th June 2008 - Trial

ID 1374 Event : Yatton Keynell Trial - June

Venue : Yatton Keynell, 14.30

Hi everybody.
Just to let you all know the trial will go ahead starting at 2.30 as advertised in TMX. We will be running a single route event so it will be on the easy side.

We arrived at the venue at 9.30 and started to clear the sections which to say the least were overgrown. lucky for me when I spoke to Bob on Friday night he reminded me not to forget the strimmer so that made the job easier. We were finished by 12.30 just before the first riders started to arrive. The sections were set out to our normal B route standard, which with the heat of a glorious summer day seemed to be just about the right severity. There was one rider who took a tumble at the exit to a section and had to be taken to hospital for a check over fortunately he didn't break anything and we wish him a speedy recovery.
As I expected the results showed the trial to have been easy and the few who spoke to me at the end said they had a pleasant days sport. Thats all for now. Dave.

Sunday 15th June 2008 - Scramble

ID 1361 Event : BCMCC Scramble

Venue : Yatton Keynall, 10:00

We held our second scramble of the year at Yatton Keynell on the 15th of June. Despite some problems and worries setting up the course, the grass was so long in the on the paddock and start straight all you could see was peoples heads! We were also worried about marshals as a few of our stalwarts had holidays and other events planned, like weddings and christenings! However Derek managed to arrange harvesting at short notice and there was a really good turn out of helpers on the day, this helped the event run very smoothly. So thanks to all you helpers once again, there were also a few new people helping with the setting up and dismantling of the course, the dismantling was completed in record time with the aid of our quad, we even got to the pub early!
We held a minutes silence before racing started in memory of Malcolm, I missed my tussles with him and the help he gave in the running of the event, it was strange not to see his red Metisse shooting of the line.
The racing on the day went smoothly with some very exciting racing, especially in the championship races. Adrian Cox gained overall victory but after problems our own Dave Bell on the Alan Brown Metisse scored a third place. This was against many unit bikes which are at a marked advantage.
In the Pre60 and Pre Unit races Dave Bell dominated and leads the club championships with Roger Dunford second in the Pre Unit class. In the rest of the Club Championships Ben Penny heads the unit class, the Hoskins brothers tie for the lead in the Pre65 251 -350 class, Wayne Stratford is in front in the Pre65 250 class with Roger Powell holding second. Pre &74 is lead by Steve Salmon with Andy White second, while in the clubman class Nigel Andrews has pole position.
In the Pat French Memorial Cup, Phil Edwards leads with Andy Roberton and Roger Dunford tied in second place followed by John Edwards and Jed White.
The event was run in aid of the Dorothy House Hospice and over £900 was raised on the day, this included the land fee from Dave Ratcliffe’s ‘fun trial’ on the Saturday. Despite the sad events of the previous event, nearly £1500 was raised for the hospice over the two scrambles.

A good variety of small fry/light weight machinery was present and a good day out had by all.

Saturday 2nd August 2008 - Trial

ID 1347 Event : Temple Cloud Trial

Venue : Temple Cloud, 14.30

Please not that this is a Saturday Trial and therefore starts at 2.30pm

Hi everyone, We are going to the venue Friday to start clearing and marking out. This Trial will be a dual route event as opposed to the last Saturday Trial which was only one. I think with a full team out and a lot of clearing we can make it an interesting afternoon's sport and maybe find a few more sections down on the old railway line. There will be an update here on Friday evening to let you know what the going should be like etc.

Latest info. Everything is going ahead as planned. The sections were finished by 6.00pm. we had showers throughout the afternoon but the ground is still on the firm side. See you all tommorow.

Saturday
********
We arrived back at the venue at ten to top and tail the sections and to make sure we hadn't overlooked anything. Only having to move a few pins around after the overnight rain was easy compared to Fridays cutting out. By 2.15pm. and with clear skies a full compliment of observers had set off to their sections and I called the riders to get ready for the off.

At 2.30. the riders were split into two groups and sent on their way. The seven sections down the old railway track were all under a covering of trees and the sun never got through, leaving the moisture there throughout the trial. Four sections here took very few marks.

Section four took marks off both A and B riders with a drop across the ditch a left turn back into the ditch and out to the end cards. The drop back into the ditch really dug out by the third lap this was the place that took the marks.

Section five caused few problems for the A riders but plenty were lost by the B riders.

Section six was the opposite, few problems for the B riders but the A riders started over a pile of rubble a sharp left and right turn then a drop into the ditch. The crunch came on the final sharp right turn over a clay ditch mound, with no grip at all lots of fives were lost here if the old steadying prod wasn't employed.

The final three sections out on the field banks dried out quickly as the sun continued to shine and caused very few marks to be droped. All in all an enjoyable afternoon. Dave

Sunday 3rd August 2008 - Road Run

ID 1366 Event : Roman Run

Venue : TBA, 10:00

Sarah tells me there was a good variety of ancient and modern machinery on the Roman Run with a total of 41 entries, all of whom seemed to enjoy themselves. The route was varied, with some lovely scenic lanes – and the odd bit of scenic cow sh*t and gravel! Lunch was at Winyards Gap Chedington Beaminster in Dorset, where you have wonderful views across the countryside.
This was not an arrowed route as people took turns to mark junctions until the tail end Charlie came through. This method seems to work quite well – what do you think? I’m told the afternoon became a little dull and eventually everyone made their way home in – shall we say - heavy rain!

Sunday 3rd August 2008 - Scramble

ID 1362 Event : BCMCC Scramble

Venue : Temple Cloud, 10:00

An excellent days racing from both solos and outfits. Dry all day until after the last race so it was just the workers who got shall we say - slightly damp - while dismantling the course.
